T-Mobile has spent the majority of 2013 rolling out an attractive set of features and services for phone users but with just a couple of months remaining, the wireless provider is shifting its attention to tablets.
In the wake of Apple’s recent iPad media event, T-Mobile has announced they will provide all tablet users with 200MB of free data each month for the life of the device. The offer is being extended to all new and existing customers and just to clarify, you aren’t required to currently have T-Mobile phone service to participate. So long as you have a cellular-enabled tablet compatible with their network, you can get free data.
It comes with no trial periods, no bait and switch and no strings attached, we’re told.
Of course, that 200MB of data is likely to go quick over T-Mobile’s budding 4G LTE network. Once a user hits the usage limit, they can purchase daily or weekly data packs starting at $5 for 500MB of data for a 24-hour period or $10 for 1GB of data to use over a week’s time. Current voice customers can add a 500MB monthly data package to their account for $10 per month.
In related news, the company is also extending their Uncarrier approach to tablets. Starting in November, T-Mobile will be offering the Nexus 7, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the new and existing iPads at zero down with payments spread over 24 months just as they do with their smartphones. For example, you’d pay roughly $26 per month for the new iPad Air through the carrier.
