Analyst: Apple may make an offer to acquire mapping firm TomTom

An analyst from the Netherlands believes that Apple is interested in purchasing GPS and mapping company TomTom as a quick fix to their own Maps fiasco that continues to drag on. Hans Slob from Rabobank International told investors today that there’s a 30 percent chance that Cupertino will make an offer on the firm.

The Apple Maps fiasco has been a thorn in the side of Cupertino ever since Google Maps was given the boot earlier this year when iOS 6 launched. Its faults and shortcomings have been thoroughly documented and aside from some general frustration from most users, nobody has really been any worse for wear – or so we thought.

Apple's OS X 10.9 to include Siri and Maps integration

Apple’s OS X 10.9 is still a ways off -- it should arrive in third quarter of 2013 if the company sticks to its schedule from the past few releases. But early builds are already in testing and apparently they continue the theme of bringing iOS features into the desktop. According to 9to5Mac, both Siri and the widely criticized Maps are being integrated into the next version of the Mac operating system.
