Most Popular Smartphones for October

Each month, Brighthand publishes a list of the smartphones and other devices our readers are most interested in. This report is compiled based on the number of views each product page receives, so every time someone clicks on a product, they're giving it a vote in these monthly rankings.

This listing doesn't necessarily indicate which models are the best selling, just which ones Brighthand readers are most interested in learning more about during the preceding four weeks.

Some hot new models from this fall appear on this list, including the new iPhone and Samsung's latest phablet (phone/ tablet), as well as the Motorola Droid RAZR M.

1. HTC One S - (Previously #1) The One S sports a large touchscreen, 4G (HSPA ) capability, and was the first handset from T-Mobile to feature Android OS 4.0. It isn't HTC's flagship smartphone, but it is a powerful device that is a bit smaller than the more-expensive One X.

2. Samsung Galaxy S III - (Previously #2) This is Samsung's flagship smartphone for the rest of 2012, as it offers just about everything one could want in a cutting-edge Android handset -- including a number of noticeable improvements over its predecessor. It sports a 4.8-inch display, the latest version of Google's Android OS, 4G, and plenty more.

3. HTC One X - (Previously #3) The One X has a range of high-end features, including a very large display, 4G, high-res camera, much more. It was the first handset released by HTC with Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

There are actually two versions of this smartphone. The U.S. one supports AT&T's 4G LTE network but has a dual-core processor. The international (European) version has a quad-core processor, but no LTE.

4. Samsung Galaxy Note II - (New) Thanks to its 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy Note skirts the line between smartphone and tablet. It also has a stylus. This device runs Android 4.0 and includes a rear-facing 8MP camera plus a 2MP front-facing one that enables video conferencing when on the go. AT&T and T-Mobile both offer it.

5. Apple iPhone 5 - (New) The iPhone 5 is Apple's new flagship smartphone, and the company's first with a 4-inch display and 4G LTE. The device is available from AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

6. Motorola Droid RAZR M (New) This Android-based model has a feature-set typical of its mid-range price, such as a 4.3-inch display, 1.5 GHz processor, and LTE. It has an average-size screen, 4G LTE, dual cameras, etc. Like all smartphones with the "Droid" name, it is exclusively offered by Verizon..

7. Samsung Galaxy Note (Previously #7) - The first-generation tablet phone from Samsung has a 5.3-inch display and an S Pen Stylus. It is available from AT&T.

8. Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 - (Previously #5) The Galaxy Player 5.0 is a decent hybrid of a basic media player and a mini-tablet, and would make a good choice for entry-level users who want to play with Android without having to commit to a smartphone.

9. Apple iPhone 4S - (Previously #4) The iPhone 4S is no longer Apple's flagship smartphone, but it's selling very well at its new price: $100 with contract. The devuice has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a 1GHz dual-core processor and an 8 megapixel camera. The device is available from AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

10. BlackBerry Bold 9930 - (Previously #8) The most powerful of RIM's latest models is the Bold 9930, which runs BlackBerry OS 7 on a 1.2GHz processor. This is the first in Bold series with a 2.8-inch touchscreen as well as a keyboard. It is offered by both Verizon and Sprint.
