Dell now accepting pre-orders for Windows 8.1, Bay Trail-powered Venue 8 Pro tablet


Dell is joining the likes of Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba in introducing a Bay Trail-powered, Windows 8.1 small form factor tablet. The Dell Venue 8 Pro is now available for pre-order priced at $299 with an estimated ship date of October 25 but how does it stack up against the competition?

PC shipments continue to drop in Q3, but there might still be hope


There appears to be a glimmer hope for the declining PC market according to IT and market research firms Gartner and IDC. Recent data from the two companies suggests that while worldwide computer shipments are still dropping, the overall decline is much less steep than in previous months.

Dell urged Microsoft to avoid using 'Windows' brand for Surface RT

   
It was recently revealed during the Dell World conference in Austin, Texas, that Dell executive Jeffrey Clarke urged Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to not use the Windows name as branding for Redmond’s Windows RT operating system. The two allegedly met earlier in the year before Microsoft officially went with the Windows RT name.

Dell's Ubuntu-based XPS 13 goes on sale for $1,449

                           
Dell is graduating its internal "Project Sputnik" program this week with the release of a thin and light XPS 13 laptop powered by Ubuntu Linux. Branded as the XPS 13 Developer Edition, the machine features an Intel Core i7 3517U processor with integrated HD 4000 graphics along with 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory, 1366 x 768 display resolution, a 256GB solid state drive, Ubuntu 12.04LTS "Precise Pangolin" and 1 year of ProSupport.

Dell's consumer sales suffer, Windows 8 touch devices encouraging

With yesterday's report of sagging consumer PC sales, Dell said it's looking to other markets (i.e. enterprise microsoft, windows, dell, tablet, windows 8, revenue, enterprise, 2012, microsoft surface, business, michael dell, windows 8 rt, windows rt, quarterly earnings, consumers, all-in-one pc, latitude 10, xps 10, earnings reports, losses, xps and IT services) to help pick up the slack. Dell has talked about transitioning from consumer PCs to IT business services in the past, but the company seems confident that its business-focused 10-inch Latitude tablet featuring Windows 8 and a swappable battery pack will be an integral part of that plan.
