Microsoft beats profit forecasts, shares jump
(Reuters) - Microsoft Corp cruised past Wall Street's quarterly profit and revenue forecasts on Thursday, helped by strong sales of its Office and server software to businesses, sending its shares up more than 5 percent after hours.

Titanfall launches March 11th on PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360
Titanfall was one of the most well received titles at E3 2013 when it was unveiled during Microsoft's keynote, with many looking forward to what it will bring to the next-generation of multiplayer gaming. Yesterday, EA and developer Respawn Entertainment revealed the game will launch in North America on March 11th, 2014, and Europe on March 13th, 2014.

Microsoft is looking to replace the aging third-party cookie
Most internet users don’t exactly like third-party cookies. After all, cookies track our online activity and allow advertisers to bombard us with targeted ads. As a result, browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer have started to adapt to these tactics by using “Do Not Track” technology. The other limitation with third-party cookies is that they cannot track mobile devices (accounting for 20% of global web traffic) or web-delivered video services.

Microsoft gives Xbox Live users free month following outage
Microsoft is offering a free month of Xbox Live to subscribers affected by the company's Xbox Live and Cloud Saved Games outage over the weekend. XBL general manager Alex Garden says the free one-month extension will be applied automatically to affected accounts, so there's no need to file a claim or otherwise contact support.

HTC is planning to launch two unique Windows RT tablets in 2013
HTC is reportedly developing two Windows RT tablets that will debut sometime in 2013 according to sources familiar with the company’s plans. The rumors contradict earlier statements by HTC which said they would withdraw from the heated tablet market in the US, allowing big names like Apple and Samsung to continue their dominance in the space.
Outlook 2013 drops .XLS and .DOC from import, export features
On its Office blog, Microsoft announced several aging features to be whacked by the deprecation hammer in Outlook 2013. Amongst these imminent changes is the elimination of importing (and exporting) legacy Microsoft Office formats, namely 97-2003 .XLS and .DOC files.

Consumer Reports recommends Windows 7 in most circumstances
Consumer Reports recently weighed the pros and cons of upgrading to Windows 8 and came to the conclusion that it’s probably best in most circumstances to stick with Windows 7 or even buy a new machine running Microsoft’s previous iteration of Windows. They offer plenty of reasons to back up their advice, too.

Google drops Gmail Outlook sync support, Microsoft "surprised"
After some Winter cleaning, Google announced the immediate discontinuation of Google Sync and Google Calendar Sync. These applications were designed to synchronize Gmail accounts with Outlook, various devices and other software via Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol.
