Voice calls over LTE consume twice as much power as 2G calls

                        
Results from a recent study by wireless testing and measurement firm Spirent Communications reveals that voice calls over LTE (VoLTE) consume up to two times as much power as a standard 2G call. This isn’t exactly great news for phone makers and wireless carriers alike but we can expect things to get better over time.

Survey names Verizon the best US carrier, AT&T the worst

                          
Consumer Reports has released its annual cellular service report with findings that are similar to last year's. After surveying 63,253 cellular subscribers across 23 metropolitan markets, Consumer Reports determined Verizon Wireless to be the highest-rated provider among the four major US telecoms, scoring relatively well when it comes to voice and data quality, staff knowledge and issue resolution.

Nexus 4 can handle LTE after all, but only in Canada

 
Google’s latest Nexus 4 smartphone is a great deal at only $300 or $350 for the 8GB or 16GB model, unlocked, and without the nuisance of a contract. But even though its specs are about on par with today's top performing phones, it falls short in one critical aspect: no official support for LTE networks. The key word here is ‘official’, as new videos have popped up showing the phone can actually handle some form of LTE.
