Rumor: Windows Phone 8.1 will kill hardware back button


Microsoft is preparing a major update to Windows Phone, dubbed Windows Phone 8.1 or Windows Phone 'Blue', which is due to reach devices in 2014. According to well-known Microsoft expert Paul Thurrott, Windows Phone 8.1 might do something radical: kill the hardware back button.

Microsoft might not have had the banner year they were hoping for with Windows 8 thus far but it’s hard to overlook the success that Windows Phone has had in 2012. A recent post on the official Windows blog by Microsoft Senior Director for Windows Marketplace Todd Brix highlights some of Microsoft’s most significant achievements in this market.

Next Windows Phone update to include VPN support, various fixes

                        
With the launch of Windows Phone 8 almost exactly a month ago, Microsoft is already looking forward to an interim update for the platform. Codenamed Apollo Plus, the update is said to include wireless and audio improvements, as well as VPN support -- a feature that has been missing since the initial Windows Phone release but was part of previous versions of Windows’ mobile operating system.
