(Reuters) - Apple Inc on Tuesday offered free upgrades for life on its operating system and business software, and unveiled thinner iPads and faster Mac computers ahead of a competitive holiday shopping season.

Apple expected to refresh entire iPad line at October 22 media event


Apple will have a new wave of iPads out in time for the holiday season. The slates are expected to take center stage at a special media event on October 22 according to people familiar with Apple’s plans as reported by All Things D.

(Reuters) - Apple Inc intends to introduce its latest line-up of iPads on October 22, tech blog AllThingsD cited sources familiar with the company's plans as saying, meaning Apple would be updating its tablets in time for holiday shopping.

Apple may release an iPhone mini priced under $250 this summer

The latest Apple rumor to surface suggests the company is planning to release a budget version of the popular iPhone handset known as the iPhone mini. Such a rumor would have easily been squashed previously but since Cupertino released a smaller and more affordable version of the iPad late last year, is the thought of a cheaper iPhone really that farfetched today?

Rumor: Thinner, lighter next generation iPad coming in March 2013

The Apple rumor mill seemingly doesn’t take a break for the holidays as we are already hearing rumblings about what Cupertino’s next generation iPad may have in store. Japanese blog Macotakara recently published a story saying the new iPad will be unveiled in March 2013, just five months after the fourth generation slate went on sale.

(Reuters) - Apple's stock may be sliding as investors fret about growing competition, but store visits and interviews with smartphone and tablet shoppers in 10 cities around the world suggest consumers share little of that negativity.

Apple and Samsung: A defining rivalry in a changed mobile market

(Reuters) - What a difference three months can make.

At the end of August, Apple Inc seemed on top of the world. Fresh off a resounding $1.05 billion U.S. legal victory over arch-foe Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, the company was gearing up to launch the fifth iteration of its iconic iPhone. Just a week prior, its market value had surpassed Microsoft Corp's and it became the most valuable technology company in history.

Gmail 2.0 for iOS arrives with multiple account support

                           
Google has pushed out an update for its iOS Gmail app that introduces an entirely new look along with a variety of new features and improvements across the board. Arriving a day after another update for Android users, version 2.0 finally brings multiple account support to iPhones and iPads, enabling users to login to up to five Google Accounts from the menu and switch between them with a couple of taps.

Apple's Black Friday sale: $100 off select MacBooks and more

Apple is not particularly known for offering generous discounts during the Black Friday shopping craze. Unfortunately, this year is no different, but if you’ve been mulling over buying one of their products today might be a good day to take the plunge. The company is touting savings of $41 on an iPad, $31 on an iPad 2 and iPod touch, $101 on the new MacBook Pros as well as MacBook Air and $7-$21 on a range of gadgets.

Samsung wins U.S. court order to access Apple-HTC deal details

(Reuters) - A U.S. judge has ordered Apple Inc to disclose to rival Samsung Electronics details of a legal settlement the iPhone maker reached with Taiwan's HTC Corp, including terms of a 10-year patents licensing agreement.

Thieves steal 3,600 iPad minis from JFK International Airport

A pair of crooks managed to steal two pallets full of brand new Apple iPad minis from JFK International Airport. They likely would have gotten away with even more if they hadn’t been interrupted by an airport worker returning from dinner, according to the New York Post.

Google Maps for iOS undergoing "finishing touches" sources claim

An anonymous source "with direct knowledge of the matter" has informed the Wall Street Journal that the big G is putting the "finishing touches" on its own native iOS entry. It remains unclear when Google will submit the app for Apple's review, however.

Apple has been ordered by the Court of Appeal of England to pay all of Samsung’s legal fees on an “indemnity basis” as punishment for publishing a statement that has been described as untrue and incorrect with regards to Samsung not copying the iPad's design.

Apple announces three million iPads sold in three days


Apple has announced it sold more than three million iPads over the past three days, marking a very successful debut weekend for the new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad. The company noted this is double the previous first weekend milestone of 1.5 million WiFi-only models sold for the third-generation iPad back in March -- though factoring in the cellular equipped versions that number grew to 3 million as well.
